Personal protective equipment u2013 Safety footwear

Footwear that is certified to the EN ISO 20345 standard always features a toecap and has always been tested for slip resistance. In addition to these basic requirements, the footwear protection varies depending on the intended use and it is therefore important to know what the safety classes specified on the label mean.

There are two classes of safety shoes and boots depending on the type of footwear;
Class I
Footwear made of leather or other materials, but not footwear made entirely of rubber or polymer materials, e.g. “regular footwear”

Class II Footwear made entirely of rubber or polymer materials, e.g. “rubber boots”

The two different types of footwear are then subdivided into different protection performance categories. Each category includes different levels of protective properties.
Other protective properties can be added beyond the protective properties specified as basic requirements in each category. The protective properties that are added are shown with further classifications via symbols on the footwear label.
